π”It’s a luxe life, but someone’s got to live it”
Have you ever wondered what the lives of the rich and famous are like? What it would be like to live a chic life in an expensive penthouse, attend a fancy private school and go to more parties than you could possibly think of?
Well, in that case, stop dreaming and start reading ‘Gossip Girl’!
In this deliciously catty novel, Cecily von Ziegesar gives us an insight into the lives of the ‘chosen ones’.
The story begins with former it-girl, Serena Van Der Woodsen returning to New York City from a boarding school in Connecticut under highly mysterious circumstances which attracts a lot of buzz and of course gossip.
A lot has changed since Serena left, her former best friend – Blair Waldorf has become Constance Billard’s new ‘Queen Bee’, which is a title that she’s not willing to give up at any cost. What if that cost is her life long friendship with Serena?
The boys too have a lot going on for them, Nate has a dirty secret which has the potential to destroy an important relationship of his, Dan has a life long dream come true but is it too good to last? And of course, Chuck has to be Chuck without getting sent to juvie!
I loved reading about the drama that ensues in their lives but what made this wickedly funny book special for me was that underneath the patina of privilege, their heartbreaks and friend feuds are familiar even to those not blessed with a charge account.
I assure you that you can relate to at least one of the characters, if not their designer wardrobes!
It was refreshing to see that there isn’t a perfect selfless hero nor is there a cruel heartless villain but there are teenagers who have flaws, make mistakes and are still in the process of learning from them!
This book like gossip itself is hard for the readers to extract themselves from once they enter which is why I highly recommend this book especially during these challenging times when we can’t meet with our friends and create drama of our own!
