❓QOTD: Have you ever cheated?
No, not on a diet.
Not on a test.
Not even on a person.
But on a book?
It so happenes that I cheated on a book that I was reading a while ago to review. It was a wonderful book that was beautifully written but five chapters in, my eyes began to wander…
There was no reason for me to look for something else to read, when in my lap sat a book filled with unread pages, unanswered questions and undiscovered mysteries waiting to be unraveled. Yet I walked over to my book shelf and began searching for something that I didn’t even know I needed.
And there it sat, bound in leather, with big golden letters on the cover page and glossy pages within that called out to me, saying,”Why settle for catfish when you can have caviar?” “Come sneak a peek and see which you like better!”
Under it’s spell, I picked up the book and sat down to read. I didn’t stop until I had finished, devouring the entire book in one sitting!
And after I’d finished, I set it down with a smile on my face and a sense of fulfillment within that was until, I saw it.
The book that I’d forgotten, the one that I had abandoned and left for a much bigger and better book. As I looked at it, I was flooded with guilt because it seemed to me that it’s cover had turned…blue…
And as I reached out to it, reassuring myself that I hadn’t done anything wrong, I felt a difference. The words seemed unsure of themselves and the plot twists felt underwhelming yet I continued to read until it regained some of it’s confidence and colour.
After an hour or two, I picked up both books and set them on different rows of the bookshelf, feeling that it was best to keep the wife and mistress far apart.
*For all those of you eagerly awaiting my next book review, I promise you that it will be out soon. And because I made you wait for so long, I will be posting a second book review on the same day!
